This October the Sunshine Club took over the weekly Knit & Natter session in the Community Wing. This is a group provided by Xcite Leisure for the Ageing Well programme. The group meets every week on a Wednesday in the Community Wing: during Sunshine Club week children were asked if they wanted to learn how to make a pom pom.
The ladies in the group worked closely with the children and patiently showed them how to wrap the wool and make themselves fluffly full pom poms. This does sound easier than the actual task at hand as the wool kept tangling and the ladies and children spent the majority of the time untangling the wool to continue the pom pom project.
This is not the first time the lovely ladies in the Knit & Natter have supported the Sunshine Club: during Easter when Loom Bands were the latest craze the ladies spent time withe children to show them how the same effect the plastic bands made could be created using wool. Designing very pretty and lasting wool bracelets.
Another Easter the ladies in the group knitted almost a hundred fluffy egg warmer ducks to give each child as a present.
The Boghall Drop in Centre would like to thank the ladies who participate in the Knit & Natter who support their time and skills to both the Sunshine Club and the other activities they support.
If you would like to make pom poms at home for yourself or with your children or grandchildren then you can find a tutorial on the website below. There are several helpful videos and help pages available online.
