The Cooking Class for Youths started last night and it was a huge success. West Lothian Councils Health Improvement Team provide the cooking class. The class is lead by Emma and supported by a volunteer from the Boghall Drop in Centre.

The young people attend several local Primary Schools.

  • Boghall Primary School

  • St Columba Primary School

  • St Marys Primary School

A lovely mix of boys and girls aged between 9-14 years old.

The first week started off easy with the young people making a few varieties of soup: Tomato, Lentil and Potato & Leek. (They also made Croutons from scratch) Sorry we did not get pictures of the food! It simply was ate too fast!

Learning to cook helps young people learn more about nutrition and encourages them to make healthier choices. Food is also linked to engaging the young peoples social skills. Using food to help strengthen communication skills and widen their social connections.

The class teaches basic food preparation skills and equips the young people with the skills and knowledge to recreate the recipes at home.

Next week the class will tackle a healthier recipe for home made Pizza!! If you are interested in the recipes used by the cooking class or wish to sign up for the next cooking class please email us on boghalldropin@gmail.com or call 01506 283201.
